The Canadian Dental Care Plan
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal program that helps to make the cost of dental care more affordable for eligible Canadian residents.
You must qualify, apply and be approved for this program online through the federal government prior to receiving coverage.
Every adult, even members of the same household who qualify must submit their own application.
When applying for multiple children, submit only 1 application that includes all children under 18. Only one parent or guardian should apply on behalf of their child(ren).
As of March 2025: If you are currently covered under the CDCP, you will need to renew your coverage each year after filing your annual taxes to confirm that you continue to meet all eligibility requirements.
For the most up to date information, please see the Government of Canada’s CDCP website.
What You Need to Know Before Accepting Care
Know your benefit effective coverage start date and copayment.
Once the government has confirmed that you qualify for CDCP, they will issue a letter to you with your CDCP member ID, coverage start date and co-payment level (if applicable). You can also get a copy of your letter through your My Service Canada Account (MSCA). You can use your letter to book your first appointment with an oral health provider (on or after your coverage start date). Later on, you will receive a physical member card in the mail.
Copayment is based on your adjusted net family income. A co-payment is the percentage of the CDCP fees that isn’t covered by the CDCP, and that you will have to pay directly to the oral health provider. For more information, please click here.
Ensure your CDCP coverage has been renewed by June 1st annually.
Confirm with our office whether there are any costs you will have to pay in addition to your co-payment.
You may have to pay additional charges if:
the cost of your oral health care services are more than what the CDCP will reimburse for these services, or
you and your oral health provider agree to services that the CDCP doesn’t cover.
